The Port of Walla Walla will decommission the existing Columbia School District’s multiple septic tanks and connecting to the Burbank Business Park sewer system. The Columbia School District is located in Burbank, Walla Walla County, Washington. The area of potential effect includes 4,100 feet of pipeline and potential effluent meter station; and lies within portions of Sections 01 and 02 of Township 08 North, Range 30 East. The pipeline will be installed in a trench ranging from 5.0 to 20 feet wide and 6.0 to 11 feet deep. The proposed undertaking is partly funded through a State of Washington Capital grant, and the Port of Walla Walla must meet the requirements of Executive Order 05-05 and consider the potential impacts to cultural resources prior to project execution.
The Department of Archaeology and Historic Preservation (DAHP) database revealed 24 previously recorded archaeological resources and one archaeological district within 1.0 mile of the proposed undertaking. None of these resources are located in the Project Area. The DAHP’s predictive model places the Project Area within an areas of very high risk for encountering cultural resources. The pedestrian survey and subsurface investigations for the Columbia School District Sewer Project resulted in no newly recorded cultural resources during the pedestrian survey or subsurface investigations. The majority of the project has been previously disturbed by school construction (i.e., hardscaped, landscaped, and underground utilities) and road construction. The proposed undertaking will result in No Historic Properties Affected, and no further archaeological investigations were recommended prior to, or during, execution of this project.
