Elmer City Sidewalk Project

The Town of Elmer City has secured funding from the Transportation Improvement Board Urban Sidewalk Program to assist with construction and reconfiguration of pedestrian facilities.  The area of potential effects (Project Area) covers approximately 1.5 acres. Installations include a sidewalk on the east side of Front Street between Seaton Avenue and Orchard Street, and on the east side of Williams Street between 3rd Avenue and Seaton Avenue; an ADA compliant crossing on SR155; and a pedestrian shelter installed at the park on the northwest corner of Williams Street and Seaton Avenue.

Pre-field research revealed 14 previously recorded cultural resources (five in Douglas County and nine in Okanogan County) and one archaeological district within 1.0 mi (1.6 km) of the Project Area.  None of these resources are located within the Project Area.  The Washington State Department of Archaeology and Historic Preservation’s predictive model places the Project Area within an area of very high risk for encountering cultural resources, and a cultural resource survey was required.

The fieldwork included inspection techniques to identify both surface and subsurface archaeological resources.  The pedestrian survey and subsurface investigations for the Elmer City Sidewalk Project resulted in no newly recorded archaeological resources.  The proposed undertaking resulted in No Historic Properties Affected, and no further archaeological investigations were recommended prior to, or during, execution of this project.

Location: Okanogan County, Washington.
