Burbank/Pasco Sewerline Alternative Alignment Project

The Port of Walla Walla proposes to construct a sanitary line between the Burbank Business Park, located in Walla Walla County, and the City of Pasco, located in Franklin County. The proposed undertaking includes a sewerline spanning approximately 1.5 miles from a point directly west of S Road 40 E, in Franklin County, to a point directly east of Hanson Loop Road, in Walla Walla County. Plateau Archaeological Investigations (Plateau) completed the cultural resource survey of the project.

Following Plateau’s investigations, the Port of Walla Walla identified an alternative route to complete the final connection to the City of Pasco’s existing system. This route will pass along the east edge of the Lakeview Mobile Home Park a distance of approximately 740 feet.

Pre-field research at the Washington State Department of Archaeology and Historic Preservation (DAHP) in Olympia, Washington revealed 14 previously recorded archaeological resources and one archaeological district within 1.0 mi (1.6 km) of the Project Area. Plateau also conducted cartographic analysis of landform, topography, soils, and proximity to water using topographic maps. Secondary historic resources, on file at the DAHP and Washington State University (WSU) in Pullman were consulted to identify any known cultural resources. The DAHP’s predictive model places the Project Area within an area of very high risk for encountering cultural resources.

No Native American or historic-era resources were identified during the pedestrian survey and excavation of 12 shovel probes for the Burbank/Pasco Sewerline Alternative Project. The proposed undertaking will result in No Historic Properties Affected, and no further archaeological investigations were recommended prior to, or during, execution of this project.

Location: Franklin County, Washington
