Ione Airport Turn-Around Project

The Town of Ione has received funding from the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Airport Improvement Program (AIP), the Washington State Department of Transportation, and Aviation division’s State Capital Improvement Program (SCIP) to perform upgrades to their municipal airport. In collaboration with Century West Engineering, the Town of Ione is constructing a turn-around near the southern end of the taxiway. The project area covers approximately 1.25 acres, and Century West Engineering retained Plateau to complete this cultural resource survey.

A review of previously recorded cultural resources and archaeological surveys revealed that while cultural resources are present in the vicinity, no archaeological sites, historic property inventories, or other historic properties are located within the Project Area. Cultural resource survey and subsurface investigations of the Ione Airport Turn-Around Project, which included a 1.25 acre pedestrian survey and the excavation of three subsurface probes, resulted in no new cultural resources identified. The proposed undertaking will result in no historic properties affected.
