Kittitas Main Street Sidewalk Project

The City of Kittitas plans to build a sidewalk along Main Street to facilitate safe and easy pedestrian travel. No sidewalks exist along this 1,400-foot stretch of the street, which connects the south end of town to the central business district. The sidewalk will be 5.0-foot wide and located along the eastern shoulder of Main Street, an existing paved road. This sidewalk will connect an existing sidewalk that terminates at the Main Street/Railroad Avenue intersection and at the Main Street/Caribou Creek intersection. Cobra head LED light fixtures will be installed along the route.

The Washington State Transportation Improvement Board (TIB) helped fund this transportation project through a Small City Sidewalk Program (SCSP) grant. The TIB is an independent state agency that distributes and manages street construction and maintenance grants with revenue generated by the statewide gas tax. Since this project is funded by state funds, the City of Kittitas must meet the requirements of Executive Order 05-05 and consider the potential impacts to historic properties prior to project execution.

The pedestrian survey and subsurface investigations for the Kittitas Main Street Sidewalk Project resulted in no newly recorded cultural resources during the pedestrian survey or subsurface investigations. The majority of the project has been previously disturbed by road construction and underground utilities. The proposed undertaking resulted in No Historic Properties Affected, and no further archaeological investigations were recommended prior to, or during, execution of this project.
