One Saturday this summer, the Plateau crew had the opportunity to help at the Palouse Habitat for Humanity construction site. After a brief orientation and safety training, we worked along with a few members of the Habitat staff, the future homeowner, and several other volunteers. The archaeologists traded their shovels for hammers and paint rollers as they prepared the walls for trusses and painted siding a nice gray/blue color. Many hands made the work light, fun, and fast.
The goal of Habitat for Humanity is to help families improve and build affordable housing. Volunteers and donations are always needed and welcome. The Palouse Habitat for Humanity has a surplus store at 304 N. Main Street in Moscow where people can donate new and used building materials and household items. We purchased some nice electrical cover plates for the office there!
