The Spokane County Public Works Department is proposing to replace the Chattaroy Road Bridge (County Bridge #3804). This project will be funded by federal monies and the project must meet the requirements Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and consider the potential impacts to historic properties prior to execution.
Plateau archaeologists did not identify Native American cultural material or features during the pedestrian survey or minimal subsurface investigations. The Chattaroy Road Bridge is 50 years old, however, and Plateau evaluated the bridge and determined that it is not eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places. It had been significantly altered over the course of its lifetime. No further archaeological investigations are recommended prior to or during the execution of the proposed undertaking.
