Walter Clore Wine and Culinary Center

Plateau Archaeological Investigations conducted a cultural resource survey for a proposed learning center in the City of Prosser that promotes Washington State wine and food. The Walter Clore Wine and Culinary Center was funded in part by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the State of Washington, and the wine industry.

Background research revealed the presence of five historic properties within one mile of the proposed project; two lithic scatters, two bridges, and one irrigation canal. None of the properties are on, or adjacent, to the project area, nor are any listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Archival file review and background research did not find any further indication that known sites are on or within the vicinity of the Project Area. During the survey, one historic era property was recorded–The Chapman Home Site—but no evidence of any pre-contact occupation or use such as artifacts, features, or sites was identified.
