Golden Northwest Binding Site Plan Cultural Resource Survey

Plateau Archaeological Investigations conducted a cultural resource survey of three proposed land parcels adjacent to the Goldendale Aluminum Plant in Klickitat County. The parcels are roughly 40-acres each and may be used for industrial or agricultural purposes.

Background research revealed that two previously recorded cultural resources are present within the Project Area, and each was reviewed and updated. Shovel probes outside of the known site boundaries were completed at each site to verify the known distribution of archaeological materials. No cultural material was identified by pedestrian survey or shovel probing adjacent to one of the known resources.  Investigations at the second site resulted in the expansion of its site boundaries.  In addition, two newly recorded pre-contact lithic scatters were identified.  Three of the sites were determined to be potentially eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places. Plateau recommended that the potentially eligible sites be avoided if possible, or systematically evaluated if avoidance is not possible during the final development.
